Information on Firefighter George Branch
Note from Dave: There was no story in the newspaper that I could find so I called Don Snider, a retired Halifax firefighter, and he filled me in on what happened to George Branch:
George Branch was sent to the Halifax International Airport to pick up the Halifax Fire Chief who was returning from a trip. There George Branch had a heart attack and was taken to the Victoria General Hospital where he died.
George Joseph Branch, 55, of 7125 Spruce Street in Halifax, died Monday at the Victoria General Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was a son the late George T. and Dora (Donnelly) Branch. He was employed with the Halifax Fire Department for 34 years.
He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War with the North Nova Scotia regiment. He served as an usher and was active with ST.Vincent DePaul Society at ST. Lawrence Church.
He is survived by his Wife, the former Bridget (Bridie) Power; two daughters, Cecilia, Halifax; and Anita (Mrs. Steven Crosby); Lower Sackville; two sisters, Marguerite; (Mrs. Ernest S.), Halifax, and Bernadette (Mrs. Kenneth Sweet), Windsor; one brother, Harold, Halifax; one granddaughter. He was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine and Kathleen, and one brother, James.
The body is at Snow’s Funeral Home; Halifax service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at ST. Lawrence Church, with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
The cause of death was listed as “Heart Attack”.
